Dr Schubert is the Senior Africa Analyst for Lusophone and Central Africa for the London-based risk forecasting company, IHS Country Risk, where Angola is one of his primary countries of focus. He holds a PhD from the Centre of African Studies at the University of Edinburgh. He also holds an MA in African Studies from the University of Basel, for which he did research in Angola in 2007, on the preparation of the 2008 parliamentary elections. In all his research, he has followed questions of political authoritarianism and its impact on society. Having grown up in Luanda, Angola from 1984 to 1992 he is fluent in Angolan Portuguese, and he is, through his research and personal experience, well acquainted with the local conditions. Throughout his professional career he has followed the political, social and human rights situation in Angola closely. He has prepared several expert reports on Angola for court cases in the UK and the US. Dr Schubert regularly charges a low fee but is willing to negotiate for his services.
