Conference on the production of forced migration, 23-24 September, Toronto
York University’s Centre for Refugee Studies’ Student Caucus hosts its 11th annual conference on 23-24 September 2016 in Toronto, Canada. This year the event focuses on The Production of Forced Migration. Papers are encouraged to examine ways in which capitalist modes of production (co-)produce displacement as a phenomenon, as well as the production of forced migration as a field of study, as a domain of government, or humanitarian intervention. Abstracts of a maximum of 250 words are welcomed via email. The deadline for abstracts is 30 June 2016.
Conference on global migration, 26-27 November, New Delhi
The Global Research Forum on Diaspora and Transnationalism (GRFDT) is organising an international conference entitled “Global Migration: Rethinking Skills, Knowledge and Culture” on 26-27 November 2016 in New Delhi, India. Refugee research methodologies workshop, 7-8 October, Istanbul
“The People on the Move Working Group” in Turkey is composed of independent academics, and with the support of the Raoul Wallenberg Institute Turkey Program, invites researchers and doctoral students to Istanbul on 7-8 October to attend a Refugee Research Methodologies Workshop. The two-part workshop will bring together scholars from different disciplines and aims to set the scene for a fresh discussion on methodological issues in refugee research. Paper proposals of 500 words should be submitted by 15 August 2016 with a short biography. For applications and more information, please send an email. Call for papers on people fleeing conflict and discrimination for special issue in the Journal of Peace Psychology
The Journal of Peace Psychology, published by the American Psychological Association, seeks papers on the movement of people “fleeing conflict and discrimination” for a special issue to be published on “Refugee Integration: Research and Policy”. The special issue will concentrate on the relationship between refugee integration and resettlement and the larger environment of host societies. Abstracts of 400-500 words are invited until 1 August 2016, and accepted completed papers are due in full by 1 March 2017. Please contact and/or submit papers to Michaela Hynie and Susan McGrath.
Conference on the impacts of socio-legal research in cultural and country expertise in Europe, December 2016
Papers are invited for a conference to be held in December 2016 as part of the five-year research project, Cultural Expertise in Europe: What is it useful for? The project is funded by an ERC Consolidator grant and led by Dr. Livia Holden, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences and Professor of Behavioural Sciences (Anthropology) at Karakoram International University, Pakistan. Currently, she is Fellow 2015-2016 at the Institute of Advanced Studies in Nantes. The event aims to investigate the use of socio-legal scholarship, and impact of cultural and country-expertise in both judicial, pre-judicial, and extra-judicial domains in a multitude of European nations. Papers of scholars, cultural mediators, translators, or lawyers, based on first-hand empirical research will be privileged but theoretical discussions, social research, and legal commentaries are also welcomed. Abstracts between 500-1000 words plus a short biography should be sent to Livia Holden.
