Two workshops on practical information on UK immigration and asylum system, Cambridge, UK, 5 and 19 July

Right to Remain is hosting a series of two workshops based on its Right to Remain Toolkit, an accessible guide to UK immigration and asylum systems. The workshops will look at the different routes into and through the immigration and asylum system, the legal rights and options for people seeking the right to remain, and practical things people can do to prepare for the different stages of the process, and what supporters, friends, communities can do to help. The workshops are free, although those who can afford it are asked to donate GBP 1 per session towards the venue cost. Both sessions will be held in Central Cambridge, and where possible, attendees should attend both sessions. The first workshop will be held Tuesday 5 July from 18:30 until 21:30, and the second 19 July 18:30 to 21:30. Please register by email.

Public meeting on challenging immigration detention, Wales, 13 July

Swansea City of Sanctuary has organised “Unlocking Immigration Detention,” a free event open to members of the public, to inform and engage around issues surrounding immigration detention. Members of the Freed Voices group will illuminate what detention is really like, and why we must campaign for change. Participants will find out about how people are coming together to challenge the injustice of detention, and how to become involved. This event will be held 13 July, from 17:30 to 19:30, in the James Callaghan Lecture Theatre in Swansea University. To book a place, please email.

Northwestern University Center for Forced Migration Studies Summer Institute: Refugee Protection and the Rights and Process of (Re)Settlement, 7-13 August 2016

The Northwestern Center for Forced Migration Studies at the Buffett Institute for Global Studies (CFMS) is pleased to announce that registration is now open for our 2016 Summer Institute: Refugee Protection and the Rights and Process of (Re)Settlement, 7-13 August 2016. The CFMS Summer Institute is an intensive, rigorous seven-day, non-degree earning certificate program, introducing participants to the resettlement process from identification and classification of refugee status to resettlement in a secondary country, with a particular focus on the United States.
