Libya

Libyan authorities have apprehended some 3,500 migrants trying to take boats to Europe in the last week alone, and because of this migrant detention centres are overcrowded, such as Zawiya centre which now houses 1,727 detainees, far above its official maximum capacity of 1,200.

Sudan

In May 2016 Sudanese authorities deported at least 442 Eritreans, including six registered refugees, in a move that may constitute refoulement, Human Rights Watch said Monday. At least 313 Eritreans were also arrested in the northern Sudanese town of Dongola.

US immigration officials have confirmed the arrest of 331 individuals during a month-long series of raids targeting “criminal aliens” throughout the Midwest. In response to the federal government’s renewed effort to forcibly remove people from the country, people in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, are setting up an emergency hotline “Sanctuary in the Streets” to assist undocumented immigrants in need of help during deportation raids.

A Chicago woman is suing federal immigration agencies for rejecting her renewal for deferred deportation status, accusing them of punishing her for the political activism that led to her gaining this status.

UK

The Detention Services Order 04/2016 Detainee Access to the Internet standardises internet access across UK immigration removal centres, allowing access to email and some websites but banning social media, instant messaging and downloads.

Uganda

At least 15 of 31 South Sudanese who fled into Moyo District in Uganda were on Tuesday repatriated to Jalimo Boma in Kajo-Keji County, South Sudan, which they fled due to violence allegedly orchestrated by South Sudanese soldiers.
