Prof Nicholas Tapp is an Emeritus Prof. in Anthropology from the Australian National University, currently Head of Sociology and Anthropology at East China Normal University, Shanghai. Previously he lectured at Edinburgh University, and at The Chinese University of Hong Kong. He has extensive experience of the ethnic minority areas of Thailand and China, and some of Vietnam and Laos, having spent many years in Thailand and China, undertaken several research visits to Laos and Vietnam, and is fluent in Hmong, Thai, and Mandarin Chinese. He also has long-term experience of refugee communities from Southeast Asia in Australia and the US. He has published widely on these areas, and has also acted as a social development consultant for international organisations.
