Integrationshaus Wien is a centre which offers refugees a place to stay in a welcoming, integrative, multicultural, empowering and innovative atmosphere. Originally started in the 1990s to host refugees from the Yugoslavian war, the centre today has evolved to counsel, care and assist, and train in a highly professional and multilingual way (legal, social, psychological, emotional, educational, medical). About 110 persons can live there; additionally there is a youth project which can hold up to 20 persons at a time. The centre offers various training and counselling services and also trains volunteers as buddies for refugees. Cultural activities and language training are other important features of the centre. The centre plays a central role in the lobbying and networking for refugees in Vienna, is very popular and has an excellent reputation for its holistic approach to care for refugees. It also provides links to other organisations/experts if necessary.
