Gambia suffered from the dictatorship of Jahya Jammeh from 1984-2017. Over that period, many human rights violations, including torture, political assassinations, disappearances, etc were committed against the civilian population, forcing thousands of Gambians into exile.

A political change took place in 2017, and whilst peaceful, the country remains fragile and the victims are now looking for accountability and justice.
